POP QUIZ! Can you pass the great manager quiz?

Are you a great manager?

Ok, so everyone thinks they are a good manager. But what really makes a good manager? Back in 2008, Google implemented Project Oxygen, an effort to understand what makes a great manager great.

A great manager can save your organization millions. Great managers reduce turnover, inspire a high level of thinking that create innovative business models, and inspire the next great leaders

As a result of this Project Oxygen, Google has identified the top 10 behaviors of the best managers at Google. The behaviors aren’t just applicable to the tech industry or the Google culture. And they’re continuing to update the list based on feedback. They’re actually pretty universal behaviors of successful managers.

So, how do you measure up to the behaviors Google has identified as those of a great manager? Can you pass the great manager quiz?

Time to be honest with yourself. Answer each question from an unbiased perspective.

Regardless of where you score one easy and effective way to aim for continuous improvement is to ask your employees the same questions. Then have an open and honest discussion with them regarding any differences. Collaborate on ideas for improvement. Showing you’re open to feedback and engaging your team in dialogue around ideas for improvement is a win/win. These behaviors support engagement and retention and reduce turnover.

At the end of the day, we all have room to improve in certain areas. And a continuous improvement mindset is good for you, good for your team, and good for your customers.
